Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose... This is supposed to be a 1st recording. I don't care whether it is or not. Love JJ and this is by far one of my favorite songs ever. I just listened to this about 5 times on replay at my desk.

I like this article, not because I'm a vegan, but because it talks on all points of exclusionary humor. As a pit bull/animal rights advocate, it happens all the time. And it's usually not intended harm, people just don't know. Read: Just a Joke

This video is awesome! Read the brief accompanying article too and pay note the mention of a Green Day diss comment that was made. Of course Green Day can pull a huge show, those boys Rock!

***putting a mature audience disclaimer on this one because of my rage filled reaction below***
THIS has to be one of the most poorly written articles, and not just because of the completely heinious comment about pit bulls. Really Assholes???? Heartbreaking for this family and those involved that are blaming a (now dead) dog for the adults mistakes. Would you leave your child alone with a strange person, okay then don't leave them alone with a strange dog. Why...because all dogs bite. Fucking Geniuses. People are freaking stupid. Rant over.

Book Review: "You Killed Wesley Payne" by Sean Beaudoin

You Killed Wesley Payne by Sean Beaudoin

You Killed Wesley Payne

Book Review: You Killed Wesley Payne is a truly original and darkly hilarious update of classic pulp noir, in which hard-boiled seventeen-year-old Dalton Rev transfers to the mean hallways of Salt River High to take on the toughest case of his life. The question isn't whether Dalton's going to get paid. He always gest paid. Or whether he's gonna get the girl. He always sometimes gets the girl. The real question is whether Dalton Rev can outwit crooked cops and power-hungry cliques in time to solve the mystery of "The Body" before it solves him.

Thoughts: Definitely not a book I would usually pick up. A good friend was moving and let me raid the book shelves because she needed to down size. She used to work for a publisher in NYC, so this was an advanced copy book and I thought, what the heck, let's try something new.

It's pulp noir, something I wasn't much familiar with. It was YA, which is also a new genre for me of late. The murder mystery factor is also something I don't usually spring for. It was enjoyable though.

I liked it because it was "new." It didn't have any shock factor, but it wasn't exactly predictable either.

Funny? Yes. The names of the cliques and the dry humor was exciting. There is a flow chart at the start and description of all the cliques. There's also a highly enjoyable and ironic glossary at the end. It made the inner nerd in my quite excited!

Recommendation: If you need something different that's quick and easy. This is a good choice. If you're into intense mysteries and can't appreciate the "pulp" I'd say skip this one. It wasn't a waste of time, it's a quick easy read. I won't read it again, but I would consider recommending it to someone that would appreciate the humor in everything.

Book Review: "A Visit from the Goon Squad" by Jennifer Egan

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

A Visit from the Goon Squad

Book Review: Bennie is an aging former punk rocker and record executive. Sasha is the passionate, troubled young woman he employs. Here Jennifer Egan brilliantly reveals their pasts, along with the inner lives of a host of other characters whose paths intersect with theirs. With music pulsing on every page, A Visit from the Good Squad is a startling, exhilarating novel of self-destruction and redemption.

Thoughts: I devoured this book. Earned a nice shiny sunburn for it too. After the first few chapters I thought it was going to be a bunch of stories of deviants and love triangles. I was pleasantly surprised when all the stories started connecting. It kept me anxious to read the next story and figure out where it would fit into the picture.

Each chapter is written in varying narrative styles told by the characters. This made the book that much more enjoyable. It made me feel like I was really listening to them tell a story. The chapters jumped around in time as well. It is my favorite style of writing. I get bored with fiction, and this type of novel sucks me in until the very end.

The characters, oh the characters. I think I loved each one as much as the next. Without having to read chapters of character introduction, you learn about them from their stories and the stories of others. You have to think and make correlations, it was very intriguing. The most surprising character connection being Dolly's daughter, Lulu. To avoid spoilers that's all you get.

Recommendation: This is a must read for me. A friend suggested it a couple years ago after it came out. I've wanted to read it since. It just kept getting pushed to the bottom of the pile while I was trying to catch up on book club books I missed while I was in grad school.

*I spent three and half years working full time and getting a master's part time. Since my book club (until recently) was reading a book every two weeks I fell behind only being able to read about every other book. Because of my OCD I've spend the past year playing catch up and reading a missed book in between each new book club book. Happily, after I read a great article on Book Riot about successful book clubs, we have changed our book schedule.

I definitely recommend this book. It's for the wanna be punk rocker, like me! It's for the literary risk takers. It's for anyone that appreciates unique styles and not-so-perfect book characters. Put this one on your list, it's officially one of my favorites. I'm just sorry i waited so long to read this one.
